Back to the salines of Afdera where workers start very early, before sunrise, to avoid the terrific heat.
The salt that comes from Afdera covers 65% of the country’s salt consumption; the remaining 35% is imported.

We left Logiya… At the end of a long road / track lined with desert landscapes, we reach the shores of Lake Afdera which culminates at -100 m below sea level.
Afdera is located in the Danakil depression, the hottest desert in the world. The lake has a high salinity of marine origin. The salt is taken from the lake since centuries.
