Here ends the journey across the Danakil desert, the hottest and inhospitable on Earth.
We leave the Afar, this proud and free people, and their camels … It’s “goodbye” time.
The Ethiopian trip is far from over. After the heat in the Danakil, we will get some freshness in the Ethiopian highlands… See later on this blog !

Coffee ceremony is a long tradition and one of the most recognizable parts of Ethiopian culture.
The coffee is brewed by first roasting the green coffee beans over hot coals in a brazier. Once the beans are roasted each participant is given an opportunity to sample the aromatic smoke by wafting it towards them.
This is followed by the grinding of the beans, traditionally in a wooden mortar and pestle (picture). The coffee grounds are then put into a special vessel and boiled.
Then, the coffee can be served to guests.
The coffee ceremony may also include burning of various traditional incense.
