Greater Flamingo plunges its beak into the mud to search for plankton, worms, mollusks, fish, insect larvae, crustaceans (including Artemia, rich in carotene, which intensifies and prolongs the pink color plumage). The beak of the flamingo is lined with complicated horny plates used to filter the mud.
