Destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, the city of Noto was entirely rebuilt in baroque style. In 2002 Noto were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural unity.
Here is the San Nicolò cathedral, restored and reopened in 2007 after the collapse of its dome.

Priest at the door of Bet Abba Libanos, one of many rock-hewn churches of Lalibela.
Tradition says that this church was built in 24 hours by Meskal Kebran, wife of King Lalibela, helped by angels. It may explain the fragility of the sanctuary which is cut in a more friable rock. The walls of the facade are also dangerously cracked.

Priest at the door of Bet Gabriel-Rufael, one of many rock-hewn churches of Lalibela.
Archaeologists believe that, in the beginning, the building was not intended to be a church, but rather the royal palace.
