At the Imbut (or funnel), the Verdon river disappears for 150 m under a rocky chaos in which it has excavated three galleries, 20 to 30 m deep.
Remarkable narrowing of the gorges, Baou béni is only 10-12 m wide between both banks. This is the end of the Imbut trail, affording a glimpse of the wildest, most inaccessible part of the canyon.

The Styx du Verdon, so named by reference to the river Styx of Greek mythology is like a sub-canyon within the canyon itself.

After seeing the Verdon Gorge from the top of cliffs, we are here at the bottom of the gorge, along Imbut trail.
Imbut trail is one of the most beautiful hiking in the Verdon Gorge, but perhaps also the most technical and difficult. It’s not recommended in winter because of ice and wet weather, as some parts can be very slippery.
